Brushmind

Brushmind is a project seeded in lockdown, on an art retreat in Western France where I followed an online calligraphy course with Japanese master Kazuaki Tanahashi. According to Asian calligraphy, discipline and freedom are the "two pillars of creativity". Alternating these allows the artist to move from rigorous observation and copying into the freedom of abstraction. Learning about how to move the brush with a conscious energy, with patience and stillness is a constant challenge for me. The calm, sober tones and lines are a counterpoint to my restless, chromatic energy. The project moved from sculptural books and vessels, through to wrapped images and larger scale pieces. Works on sale: Flight (print only), Brushmind 1,2,3,4 (Framed).

Availability: Framed originals for sale.
